New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government plans to build a 20-km road in Ayodhya called Bharat Path. It will connect Ranopali railway crossing on Ram Path to Bharatkund via Vidyakund and Darshannagar on the Prayagraj highway. The estimated cost is ₹900 crore.
The new road will connect Bharatkund, where Lord Ram’s brother Bharat is believed to have done penance, to the Ram temple. The state government says this spiritual corridor will improve access for devotees and enhance Ayodhya’s importance as a religious site.
After the construction of the Ram temple, the number of visitors to Ayodhya has increased sharply. To manage the growing crowd and traffic, the government is working on several road projects like Ram Path, Bhakti Path, Janmabhoomi Path, and now Bharat Path. It is also widening the Panchkosi and Chaudashkosi Parikrama routes.
At present, Bharat Path is a two-lane road. The plan is to widen it to have two 9-metre-wide lanes and a 2.5-metre divider in the middle. Floodlights will also be installed.
Bharatkund is an important place in the Ramayana. It is believed Bharat stayed there during Ram’s exile and performed the Pind Daan for their father King Dasharatha at this site. The location also has a mythological lake.
PWD officials said the detailed project report has been sent for approval. Work will start once it is cleared.
