Saudi Arabia Restarts Oil Loadings Amid Hormuz Uncertainty

Saudi Arabia has resumed crude oil loadings from terminals inside the Strait of Hormuz after a temporary halt triggered by attacks and heightened security risks in the region. Saudi Aramco loaded three very large crude carriers between August 12 and 16 from the Juaymah and Ras Tanura terminals, with each vessel carrying around 2 million barrels.

The move signals a cautious return of flows through one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints. Aramco is also offering Arab Medium and Arab Heavy crude cargoes to some Asian refiners through ship-to-ship transfers near Fujairah in the UAE, providing buyers with alternative supply arrangements.

However, the restart does not mean shipping risks have disappeared. Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains significantly below normal as several shipping companies continue to avoid the route amid security concerns. The waterway previously handled around one-fifth of global crude oil and LNG shipments.

For global oil markets, Saudi Arabia’s resumed loadings could ease some immediate supply concerns, but continued disruption in Hormuz and the Red Sea keeps freight, insurance and supply risks elevated.
