India Energy Week (IEW) 2027 is set to bring the global energy conversation to Kolkata, with the event scheduled for 28–31 January 2027 at the New Town Convention Centre. The announcement was formally made at the IEW 2027 curtain raiser, marking Kolkata’s first time as the host city.
Held under the theme “Unlocking Innovation. Securing Energy. Shaping Tomorrow.”, the fifth edition will focus on some of the biggest questions facing the energy sector: how to strengthen energy security, expand access to affordable energy, accelerate technological innovation and manage the transition towards lower-carbon systems.
From Energy Security to Energy Innovation
The timing of IEW 2027 is significant. Energy markets are facing a combination of geopolitical uncertainty, changing supply chains, rising demand and pressure to decarbonise. For India, these challenges are closely connected to its economic growth and rapidly expanding energy requirements.
The event is expected to bring together more than 75,000 energy professionals and 700 international exhibitors, creating a platform where policymakers, businesses, investors and technology developers can exchange ideas and explore partnerships across the energy value chain.
The agenda will extend beyond conventional oil and gas discussions. IEW 2027 will spotlight areas including hydrogen, biofuels, renewables, LNG, petrochemicals, digitalisation and artificial intelligence, net-zero strategies and city gas distribution. A dedicated Make in India focus will also highlight domestic technology and manufacturing capabilities.
Kolkata Becomes a New Energy Conversation Hub
Hosting IEW in Kolkata also expands the geographical footprint of India’s flagship international energy platform. The event will bring global stakeholders together in eastern India while connecting discussions around India’s growing market with wider international priorities.
The programme is designed to connect strategic discussions with practical implementation. Its conference programme will address issues such as energy security, supply-chain diversification, investment, electrification, grid infrastructure, industrial decarbonisation and international partnerships.
The event will also feature international participation through 13 country pavilions, representing countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Norway, Canada, Italy and Denmark.
Why the Dialogue Matters
India’s energy challenge is no longer simply about producing more energy. It is about building an system that can support economic growth while remaining secure, affordable and increasingly sustainable.
That requires cooperation across traditional and emerging energy sectors. Oil and gas will continue to play a role in meeting demand, while renewables, hydrogen, biofuels, nuclear power, electrification, digital technologies and energy-efficiency solutions develop alongside them.
