New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to install solar panels on the elevated sections of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. This is part of a move to promote clean energy.

Along the service road between Akshardham and the Old Yamuna Bridge (Lohe-ka-Pul), space will also be created for vehicle parking and public facilities wherever land is available.

Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Road Transport and MP from East Delhi, met with senior officials from NHAI, the Delhi government, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to discuss the plan. He shared on social media that the meeting was held in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of reducing carbon emissions to net zero by 2070.

Officials said the minister asked agencies to explore how unused space along the road could be used better. In areas like Gandhi Nagar and Kailash Nagar, which have busy wholesale markets, there is a serious need for more parking. Using the open land near the Yamuna River for parking can help reduce traffic and clear up the roads.
