August Energy and Energeia have partnered on a $100 million plan to accelerate energy efficiency across India, targeting businesses and industries that consume large amounts of energy. The partnership aims to finance and implement solutions without requiring companies to make heavy upfront investments.

The initiative will focus on technologies and services such as energy-efficient cooling, heating, steam and compressed-air systems, motor-driven equipment, fuel switching, solar, wind and storage. It will also promote a Cooling-as-a-Service model, where businesses can access efficient cooling infrastructure while paying based on performance rather than bearing the full capital cost.

The partnership is expected to support sectors including pharmaceuticals, automotive, food and beverage, chemicals, cement, steel, healthcare, hospitality, data centres and commercial real estate.

The larger goal is to make efficiency easier to adopt by combining private capital, technology and performance-based financing. By reducing both costs and emissions, the initiative could help Indian businesses become more competitive while supporting the country’s broader clean transition.

The big picture: India’s transition is not only about producing more renewable power, it is also about using existing more efficiently.
