New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday opened the new terminal at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna. He also laid the foundation stone for a new civil airport terminal at Bihta, located on the outskirts of Patna.
The terminal at Patna was built at a cost of ₹1,200 crore. The Bihta civil enclave project will cost ₹1,410 crore, officials said.
The event was part of the Prime Minister’s two-day visit to Bihar ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu, and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were also present.
Details of the Projects

The new Patna airport terminal covers 65,150 square metres.

It can handle 3,000 passengers at peak time and up to 1 crore passengers per year.

The design includes local features and Mithila artwork.
The Bihta terminal will be 68,000 square metres in size.

It is expected to handle 3,000 passengers at peak time and up to 50 lakh passengers annually by 2047.

The project will also include a multilevel car park, a service block, and designs inspired by historic architecture.
Both terminals will have energy-efficient features like insulated roofs, LED lights, and heat-resistant glass.
CM Nitish Kumar said these projects will improve air travel and tourism in Bihar and help the economy grow.
Deputy CM Choudhary called it a historic day for the state. He said better air connectivity will speed up travel and support the economy not just in Bihar, but across eastern India.
According to the government, these upgrades will support increasing domestic travel, improve connections, create jobs, and attract investments in education, healthcare, trade, and other areas.
The statement said the projects are part of India’s larger plan to grow the economy and develop all regions of the country.
