Nomenclature updated to “Healthcare products” to better reflect responses on medical
devices, pharmaceutical/medicines, nutraceuticals and OTC products available at the
Pharmacy retail.
In the State of Counterfeiting in India 2025 report, we have updated the nomenclature
from “pharmaceuticals” to “healthcare products” for the relevant category. This report is
based on the consumer survey to understand perception and their experience of
encountering counterfeit products in their lives. This update has been made on the
basis of a detailed review of the survey responses, which spanned a wide spectrum of
healthcare products. These included medical devices, pharmaceuticals/medicines,
nutraceuticals, and over the counter (OTC) products. The term “healthcare products”
has been adopted as a more indicative and representative term to describe these
healthcare and wellness-related products exactly as perceived by customers who
participated in the survey. This change ensures the report more precisely mirrors the
breadth of segments covered in the underlying consumer and industry surveys.
The updated nomenclature covers a wider breadth of the products in healthcare
ecosystem which the consumer comes across on a usual basis and was presented to
the consumer during the survey. By aligning the category name with the actual scope of
products covered in the survey, the report now provides clearer and more relevant
insights for stakeholders while maintaining the integrity of all data and findings.
