A new assessment by Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) has highlighted that India and China are making notable progress toward their commitments compared to several developed economies. The report finds that both countries have advanced renewable energy deployment, improved emissions intensity, and strengthened policy frameworks to support their long-term goals.
Among the BASIC nations—BASIC (Brazil, South Africa, India, and China)—India and China have demonstrated stronger momentum in meeting key climate and energy transition targets. In contrast, many developed economies continue to face challenges in aligning current policies and emissions trajectories with their 2030 commitments.
The findings underscore the growing role of emerging economies in driving global climate action while highlighting the need for developed nations to accelerate emissions reductions, clean energy investments, and policy implementation to remain on track for international climate goals.
