India has emerged as the largest wind energy market outside China in 2025, according to a recent Bloomberg NEF (BNEF) report. The country installed a record 6.3 GW of new wind capacity during the year, marking an impressive 85% year-on-year growth. This surge helped India surpass the United States and Germany, which had long held leading positions in the global wind sector outside China.

The rapid growth has been largely driven by India’s innovative clean energy auction model, where developers combine wind, solar, and battery storage projects to deliver reliable renewable power. Delayed projects from 2024 were also completed in 2025, boosting installation numbers further.

India’s strong domestic performance has also benefited local manufacturers such as Adani Green Energy, Suzlon, and Inox Wind, helping them gain stronger positions in global turbine rankings.

Bloomberg NEF expects India to maintain stable wind additions through the decade, with nearly 30 GW of new wind capacity projected by 2030. Improved transmission infrastructure and continued policy support are likely to strengthen India’s renewable energy leadership in the coming years.
