Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) has secured a ₹4,081 crore project from the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML) to develop a 12.9 km ropeway linking Sonprayag to Kedarnath. This initiative, part of the National Ropeways Development Programme – Parvatmala Pariyojana, is set to revolutionize access to one of India’s most revered pilgrimage sites.
The ropeway aims to reduce the arduous 8–9 hour trek to a swift 36-minute journey, with a capacity to transport 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction. Scheduled for completion in six years, AEL will operate the ropeway for 29 years under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “The Kedarnath ropeway is more than an engineering project – it is a bridge between devotion and modern infrastructure.”
With Kedarnath attracting approximately 20 lakh pilgrims annually, the ropeway is expected to enhance accessibility, bolster tourism, and generate employment opportunities in Uttarakhand, marking a significant stride in integrating modern infrastructure with spiritual heritage.
